MITCH REAVIS

How old were you when you first started playing, who taught you to play and who most influenced your development as a young player?
I started playing when I was six years old and my sisters Emily and Jill taught me how to play. Matt Kirkpatrick influenced my development because he told me that I wasn't a soccer player but rather an athlete and that really motivated me.

What's been the single best moment of your soccer career thus far, at any level of competition?
Being state champions in 2009. I scored both goals in the championship to defeat Sockers and that advanced us to regionals.

What are your long-term goals in the sport?
To be able to play competitively all throughout college and then to be able to give back to the soccer community when I am older and out of college.

What has been the most valuable aspect of being trained by the Academy coaches?
The focus on individual training and the importance of returning to things that we learned when we were under age 10. Also the focus of going hard at every practice to get better.

What has training with the Academy taught you about yourself as a player and where do you need improvement?
It has taught me that with hard work and motivation, I can compete at the ultimate highest level. Also I know that I need to work on my soccer creativity.

What is the most difficult part of training with the Academy?
Knowing that some times I'm going to go many weeks at a time without playing a single game against another club and finding the fight within me to still bring it to every practice.

Does the training differ from past training you've had, and in what way?
The training is different and focuses more on fundamentals such as smooth trapping and passing rather than complex things that are better acquired rather than learned.

Which of your Academy teammates impresses you the most and why?
Elliot Borge impresses me because I see him coming early and staying late at practice to improve his game as well as working hard at every practice.

Which of the other U-16 or U-18 Academy players impresses you and why?
I played against Chris Prince during the past few high school seasons and I found that he is a very hard worker and a good leader.
