BILLY MCGUINNESS

How old were you when you first started playing, who taught you to play and who most influenced your development as a young player?
I started playing when I was five years old. I was influenced by Jim Wing, who was my coach with the LTSC Lightning from when I was seven to 11, and John Hannan, my coach with the Chicago Magic from when I was 10-15 years old.

 

What's been the single best moment of your soccer career thus far, at any level of competition?
Scoring the game-winning goal in the state final.

 

What are your long-term goals in the sport?
Become a pro on a top European club.

 

What has been the most valuable aspect of being trained by the Academy coaches?
A high level of professionalism with multiple perspectives.

 

What has training with the Academy taught you about yourself as a player and where do you need improvement?
I need to be in better shape and train harder on a regular basis.

 

What is the most difficult part of training with the Academy?
Consistently going at 100 percent.

 

Does the training differ from past training you've had, and in what way?
There's a more professional environment here.

 

Which of your Academy teammates impresses you the most and why?
Harry is the most skillful and most comfortable with the ball.

 

Which of the other U-16 or U-18 Academy players impresses you and why?
David Caban is very consistent and has a good work ethic.
