CHARLIE LYON

How old were you when you first started playing, who taught you to play and who most influenced your development as a young player?
I started playing in kindergarten, so probably around the age of five or six. My dad started to teach me then, but then I went to Campton. Marco Parducci, Brian Nail, Aron Hyde and Doug Cardosi had a huge impact on my development when I was younger.

What's been the single best moment of your soccer career thus far, at any level of competition?
My game against the Sockers last year was one of my best that I've ever played.

What are your long-term goals in the sport?
I want to play pro in the MLS then in the EPL and I want to become one of the greatest goalkeepers to have ever played.

What has been the most valuable aspect of being trained by the Academy coaches?
The demand to always be better and always be consistent as well as to maintain a professional work ethic and mind set.

What has training with the Academy taught you about yourself as a player and where do you need improvement?
I have learned that tactically my decision making needs to be better and my judgment needs to be better, as well. Also I feel that right now I need to work on my focus, consistency and my work ethic.

What is the most difficult part of training with the Academy?
For me physically, it's any of the cardio-fitness. Also playing indoors is hard on such a bad surface. Mentally it is always being sharp at every moment and always working hard and always playing consistently at your best.

Does the training differ from past training you've had, and in what way?
Yes, it is much better, much more focused and much more development-oriented.

Which of your Academy teammates impresses you the most and why?
B impresses me the most because he is one of the best players I have ever seen. Technically he is very good, tactically he is very smart and he is a very hard worker.

Which of the other U-16 or U-18 Academy players impresses you and why?
Victor is very talented, David plays like he's an 18, Henrik is very talented and smart with the ball. Also Drew for his technical ability and how he played up with us last year and Flaco because he is very good, especially for his size.
