SCOTT LAKIN

How old were you when you first started playing, who taught you to play and who most influenced your development as a young player?
I first started playing when I was five or six. My dad taught me the basics and Frank Klopas coached me from 10 to 15 and developed my game.

What's been the single best moment of your soccer career thus far, at any level of competition?
My best moment as a soccer player came when I was with the Magic last year. We beat F.C. Dallas 3-1 in the Dallas Cup. The game was crazy and very intense and we were all glad to win that game.

What are your long-term goals in the sport?
I want to win a national championship this year with the Fire. Then I want to do the same thing at Northwestern. I also want to play for the Fire pro team.

What has been the most valuable aspect of being trained by the Academy coaches?
The most valuable aspect for me is the competitive environment that they provide for us every day.

What has training with the Academy taught you about yourself as a player and where do you need improvement?
The training have taught me how much I want to be a pro. I know I need to improve my touch.

What is the most difficult part of training with the Academy?
The most difficult part is staying focused five to six days a week. It is difficult to go 100 percent when you also are dealing with school.

Does the training differ from past training you've had, and in what way?
Yes, the training that I have had in the past has been more relaxed. In the past I have done less drills and more short-sided games.

Which of your Academy teammates impresses you the most and why?
Billy always impresses me. Even when he is having an off day he never gives up and he reads the game so well.

Which of the other U-16 or U-18 Academy players impresses you and why?
I am impressed by Victor. I have never really played with him so I was surprised by how good he is.
