How old were you when you first started playing, who taught you to play and who most influenced your development as a young player?
I first started playing soccer when I was four years old. Mick Mayer taught me how to play for the first five years in the sport. I'd say that Mick Mayer, John Hannan, Tony Kees and myself have influenced me the most all at different times of my career.
What's been the single best moment of your soccer career thus far, at any level of competition?
The single best moment of my soccer career took place this past fall at Toyota Park in the Pepsi Showdown championship. In double overtime, I took the ball across the field on a diagonal and struck a shot 'Up 9' from about 23 yards out. The team rushed out and dog-piled on me. It was an incredible feeling helping my team win a tough game in an intense atmosphere.
What are your long-term goals in the sport?
I want to play professional soccer. I want to have a great career at IU and graduate with a degree. No question I want to be a professional soccer player, though. Until I can't go any more, I want to be playing soccer.

Training with the Academy has taught me that I always need to be on my game and I always need to be working hard to improve. I need to become a better goal scorer, become a better dribbler and become more effective out of the air.
What is the most difficult part of training with the Academy?
The most difficult part of training sessions with the Academy is the pressure involved with it. It seems more intimidating this year which can make things harder and more difficult.
Does the training differ from past training you've had, and in what way?
Training is always changing. Some weeks it is more technical work and other weeks that changes. Our coaches and the time of the season determines how training will be.
Which of your Academy teammates impresses you the most and why?
Bryan Ciesiulka, no question. B is the best player I have ever played with. I have had the privilege to play with him for the past 11 years of my life. He is smart, gifted, quick and delivers the ball better than anyone I know.
Which of the other U-16 or U-18 Academy players impresses you and why?
Elliot Borge really impresses me. He holds the ball real well and can play with a man on his back. He is a good leader despite his age. I look forward to beating LT next fall and then playing with him next spring. |
