PETER BEASLEY

How old were you when you first started playing, who taught you to play and who most influenced your development as a young player?
I was about five years old when I joined a local team that my dad coached. He coached me and all of my siblings for the first two years of our playing.

What's been the single best moment of your soccer career thus far, at any level of competition?
My single favorite moment was winning the regional championship in Rockford. It was special because it not only secured a trip to nationals but because the year before we had lost in the finals. To come back a year later and win was something I will never forget.

What are your long-term goals in the sport?
I hope to play throughout college and one day go pro. Whether I go pro or not, I always want to be involved with the game which may mean becoming a coach or referee.

What has been the most valuable aspect of being trained by the Academy coaches?
I really like how knowledgeable each coach is and that each coach will make a different coaching point. Because there are numerous academy coaches, I think each player gets an accurate evaluation that is not based on any one opinion or day.

What has training with the Academy taught you about yourself as a player and where do you need improvement?
Training with the Academy has given me confidence. I know that I can compete with some very talented players. I really need to work on some technical aspects of the game, especially playing long balls behind the defense.

What is the most difficult part of training with the Academy?
Being focused and playing well night in and night out. Because there is so much competition for positions, there is a lot of pressure to perform well on a daily basis.

Does the training differ from past training you've had, and in what way?
Yes because the first time there are multiple coaches at each session. This allows for more specialized training on a more personal basis.

Which of your Academy teammates impresses you the most and why?
I really enjoy playing with Victor. He is extremely good with the ball at his feet. He is a dangerous attacker that is very difficult to stop 1-on-1.

Which of the other U-16 or U-18 Academy players impresses you and why?
I have been really impressed by Billy. He is such a solid defender. I cannot remember one time, either at practice or in Phoenix, where he has been beaten. He also does a great job of organizing and making the players around him better.
Another player that has impressed me is Harry Shipp. He is crafty with the ball and it is difficult to anticipate his next move.
