LUIS BARAJAS

How old were you when you first started playing, who taught you to play and who most influenced your development as a young player?
I started playing at the age of six with my friends and I got better every time that I played so then I got signed up to play in an Hispanic league. My parents and coaches kept pushing me to become a better player and they supported me.

What's been the single best moment of your soccer career thus far, at any level of competition?
I scored the winning goal when I was 15 in a championship game that was important to all of us.

What are your long-term goals in the sport?
I really want to make it as a pro. I have to work hard and keep learning what the Academy coaches are showing to achieve my goal and to take all of the advice that they are giving me.

What has been the most valuable aspect of being trained by the Academy coaches?
Everything they teach me I try to do better. They push you to give it your all and they teach you stuff that you have never heard from any other coaches. By far, they are the best coaches I have ever had.

What has training with the Academy taught you about yourself as a player and where do you need improvement?
It has showed me that I have a lot in me and I have played a lot of different positions. I think I need to improve in my defending when I'm playing right mid and I need to work on my positioning and when to go and stay.

What is the most difficult part of training with the Academy?
I enjoy the practices with the Academy and I don't find them difficult as long as you give it all you've got, you will be fine. Just enjoy them and play your heart out in every practice so you get a chance to play at the game. All you need to do is be consistent and pay attention and the practices aren't hard at all.

Does the training differ from past training you've had, and in what way?
Yes, because the Academy coaches push you so you can become a better player and they bring everything you have inside out of you and they show you what they want from you.

Which of your Academy teammates impresses you the most and why?
Victor because he always plays his best. He is also a good friend on and off of the field. He plays really well and might be the best player in the Academy.

Which of the other U-16 or U-18 Academy players impresses you and why?
Harry Shipp because he is a very good player and also a good person on and off the field. He has very good ball control, he gives everything that he has in every game and never quits. He will fight throughout the whole game.
