Benet 6, Notre Dame 0

Benet Academy's Andrew Slaga started a scoring bonanza in the eighth minute of play on Wednesday night at Notre Dame in Niles, off Ryan Reilly's free kick, in its first East Suburban Catholic Conference soccer match.

Slaga and Notre Dame's goalie, Kristian Acosta, collided on the play and Acosta went to the sidelines. Starting three minutes later, the Redwings went on to score three more goals within a minute. Brad Bozych started the frenzy with a shot from the right into the far post on Hunter Miller's assist and 26 seconds later Slaga crossed to Hunter Miller for a third goal.

Twenty-four seconds later Sean O'Hara sent a beautiful cross to Benjamin Kucera, who found the back of the net. Within another minute, Hunter Miller took a corner kick and Kucera had a second goal. As fouls and yellow cards amassed for Notre Dame, Benet coach Sean Wesley took the opportunity to utilize a number of fresh players.

Benet (3-3-1, 1-0 in ESC play) led 5-0 at the half.

In the second half, Benet got a goal from Ryan Rocci when teammate Pat Nemetz broke through two defenders, got close to the right of goal and crossed to Rocci for the final Benet goal in the 68th minute.

Tony Auerbach had three saves in goal for Benet in the second half, while the Redwing defense did not allow a single shot on goal in the first half.
