Lake Park's 5-1 win over Streamwood on April 25 was bittersweet for the Lancers and sophomore Lexi Ruffolo.
“Lexi just came back to us today. Her sister (Nicole) is in a hospital in Indiana after getting involved in a hit-and-run,” Fruehling said. “We loved having Lexi here because she’s part of our family. Our hearts go out to her. I give her tremendous credit just to come out here and play tonight.”
According to The Daily Iowan, 22-year-old Nicole Ruffolo was struck by a hit-and-run driver on April 20 near the campus of Purdue University, where the University of Iowa senior was visiting a friend. After being listed in critical condition and put in a medically-induced coma due to bleeding and pressure on her brain, according to the family’s donation site, Nicole has opened her eyes and is becoming responsive.
